Final Flight to Beijing

I am writing this as I sit at the airport awaiting my final flight to Beijing! When I left Beijing for the Christmas holiday I fully intended to be returning for 2 more years but the more time I spent at home and after the many discussion it occupied over Christmas, I came to the realisation that while staying for another contract would be financially beneficial, it would be at the sacrifice of our happiness and that sacrifice just isn't worth it.

So this will be the last ever time I board a flight to Beijing and in June I will take my final flight from Beijing, where we will relocate to London. I'm beyond excited to experience life in London and be closer to friends and family. Everything is just so much more straightforward in the UK and I'm so ready for it!

For a while, probably longer than I realised, I've been feeling unhappy and frustrated with life in Beijing and there are many things that I really want in my life that aren't an option for me in Beijing. I'm planning to do a separate post about these things later this month so check back to find out what those specifics are. It would have been easy to stay in Beijing - it's familiar, better money and it was what we had planned. But sometimes the best laid plans don't turn out to be the best and I'm confident that we've made the best decision.

So, so do I feel about my final flight to Beijing?

  • Relieved! It feels as though a weight has been lifted from my shoulders and I can breathe again.
  • Focussed! I have 6 months left in Beijing and plan to make them count to be London ready.
  • Excited! I've been more miserable than I realised for a while and I feel like I've finally taken a step in the right direction for me. I'm excited for what is to come.
I'm ready to slay 2018!

Are you planning any big changes this year?

  10. Although I like the idea of experiencing different cultures and meeting new people, it becomes difficult to stay away from family and friends after a few months. I am glad that you will relocate to London in a few months.
