Hello, 2018!

Happy 2018! I hope you all had a fabulous time celebrating the new year and are feeling motivated to kick 2018's ass. Or failing that, I hope that last night's celebrations were freakin' amazing and justify your hangover!

I love the feeling of a new year! Even though it's been less than 24 hours and nothing has really changed, that feeling of a fresh start and a clean slate is such a refreshing and motivating feeling. Or maybe you're just feeling hungover as hell...

I am definitely welcoming in 2018 with big, open arms. 2017 wasn't exactly a bad year, but it wasn't a good one either. It was pretty uneventful, quite boring and full of a serious lack of motivation. This has put me in a really positive mindset now and so ready for 2018, which is not how I usually feel on the first day of the year. It's a welcome change!

Like everybody, I have lots of things I'd like to work on in 2018, but instead of trying to do everything and failing, I'm focussing on a few key things that will make my life a happy one.

Get fit and healthy
This one combines a few different things, but the 3 key elements are exercising more, putting good things into my body and reaching a healthy weight. This needs to be a lifestyle change, not a fad diet that I can only keep up for a short amount of time, but because of the good start I made in 2017, I feel like I can do this. I'm going to start going to the gym a few times a week and try to move more every day, including walking to work when the weather is good. I'm also not going to beat myself up when I eat out or have a cheat day. Life is for living and I have to allow myself to do that too. It's all about balance and I know this goal isn't going to be a quick fix, and I'm prepared for the long-term change.

Make the most of me
I feel that I used to make so much more of myself, from clothing and accessories to doing my hair and make-up. I now don't do this half as much and it makes me really sad that I don't because I enjoy those things. Mostly, this is linked to my weight issues as I stopped wearing pretty, colourful clothes and I guess, just didn't feel like it was worth going to the effort. I am already starting to make more effort since I started to lose weight but I want to keep this going and step it up in 2018. I want to experiment more and feel more confident in myself.

Find the fun in every day
Sometimes I can be so serious and that's completely not who I am. A big part of this is my job and the past year has made me realise that I would be much happier as a classroom teacher than I am in a leadership position and I let work get on top of me way more than I should. I find that I have so much to do that I have no time for myself or people, and when people try to chat or have a joke, I feel myself getting frustrated because I have things to do. It's absolutely not who I want to be. I want to find that fun-loving, happy girl that I was and bring her back. Life is so short and it should be all about the fun moments. Not only the fun moments, but finding the fun in the everyday moments and this is what I want to do more of this year.

Blog consistently throughout 2018
I enjoy blogging but it has also been a source of frustration for me. Partly because until recently I wasn't particularly happy with how my life was going and I didn't want to reflect that on my blog. Because of this, I found it really difficult to blog, despite wanting to, which made me feel frustrated. I would put pressure on myself to blog but then feel unhappy with the content. I feel like I now have a much clearer idea of what I want my blog to be and where I'm going with my life so I want to blog consistently this year, without the pressure, and just see what happens...

Save
I've never really thought too much about the future or saving, but all of a sudden, and I mean in the space of about 3 months I want a baby, I want a house and I want the whole shebang of grown up life. This year I want to prioritise putting some savings aside for the future and try to follow a budget of some sort.

That's it, 5 goals! Some quite big ones but all will make such a huge difference in my life and I'm looking forward to working on them this year.

What are your 2018 goals or mantras?

  3. I completely identify with what you are saying about feeling frustrated at others because you have become so overwhelmed with life and it can often be hard to find that fun loving person again. I was like this not so long ago and having the courage to truly follow my heart and do the things that I loved made me much happier and made me laugh a lot more. If you want to become that classroom teacher I would definitely recommend doing it :)

Yes, make time for you and do the things that make you feel your best. When you enjoy looking your best you feel your best. This will make you happy and spill over into all areas of your life.
