Winter Wonderland in Shine Hills

I’m the biggest Christmas lover you will probably ever meet. I won’t lie, Beijing’s lack of Christmas celebrations is one of the reasons that I made the decision to move back to the UK (although I’m not telling Paul that!) You literally would not know Christmas was happening in Beijing for the most part, but when they do decide to celebrate, they do the most random thing I’ve ever seen.

They sprayed fake snow all around the outdoor shopping area.

I mean, it’s random, but I love it. It’s just so Beijing! In Autumn they stuck fake golden leaves to trees and in winter they spray fake snow everywhere! I usually have a WTF moment in Beijing on a daily basis, sometimes 10, and this was one of them.

What is the most random thing you have seen in your city?

  1. This is such a strange thing to see - I didn't know that but on first glance thought it was all real haha! I love how it's so random but also nice to see that they made an effort!

Hope you're well and wishing you a lovely weekend! :)

  8. LOL. Doesn't it snow in Beijing though? Our city is full of random people dancing on the train or giving you high fives on the street.

  9. In dubai when it's Christmas its go big or go home (like pretty much everything else) we have Christmas trees three stories high and santa at every mall. It's impressive in the run up to Christmas because Dec 2nd is national day and on the 26th the shopping festival starts so in very quick succession they change the decor from UAE flags, to trees and tinsel, to shopping promotions and it's seemless. I think they do anything particularly weird, at least not that I can think of from the last 25 years but it is definitely a huge deal here...

  10. OMG, I never knew that fake snow are being spread to give the feel of winter wonderland. Occasionally, its okay, but I really dunno how would I react to this fake golden leaves being stuck on trees. How different, indeed random thing.

  11. Ha..ha.. at the first glance I didn't know how to react to this! But it's nice to see them putting an effort to create something they don't have! The snow looks so real though.. :)

  12. This is hilarious. If a white Christmas won't come to you, you go to it. As a girl from the midwest who's looking out her window at real snow, it would be super funny. But I suppose, if that's what you're used to, then maybe they think nothing of it? x

  14. This does look like a winter wonderland. I really wish we were able to get some snow out in Southern California, but it almost never happens.
