Why New York City Will Always Have a Piece of My Heart

Anybody who knows me, even if you’ve only met me once as we bumped into each other passing on the street, you probably know that I love New York City.

From the very first second I arrived in NYC for the first time, it felt magical. Arriving at Port Authority bus terminal at 9pm at night and being welcomed by the bright lights of Times Square, I instantly knew that NYC was going to steal a little piece of my heart and never give it back. And it did! Every single second of my time in NYC was the best ever and It has outdone itself every time I’ve visited since.

So are you ready for the most clichéd post ever as I talk about why I frickin’ love NYC so bloody much?

You know the song with all its cliché words, well they’re all true! As you walk around NYC you genuinely feel like you can do or be anything you want in the word. It has this energy that seeps inside you and makes you feel invincible. I feel inspired, stronger, motivated and filled with energy as I stroll around the city. But most of all, I feel happy! NYC brings out a level of happiness that is deep inside of me and it’s the best feeling in the world.

I’ve always been a city girl who loves the excitement of city life but NYC is on a whole other level. There is never a single boring moment in NYC! With every corner you turn, every road you cross and every turn of your head there is a bizarre sighting that makes you utter the words #onlyinNYC but also makes your smile even bigger because you’re in NYC!!!

Oh, and how could I forget the food? I’m the biggest fan of anything stodgy and NYC has all of the best stodgy foods. I mean, don’t get me wrong, if I lived there I would probably weight around 100 stone but when I’m only visiting it gives me the excuse to eat it all and love every second of it.

And then there’s Christmas! If there’s anywhere in the world that knows how to do Christmas, it’s NYC! If you know me well, you’ll also know that Christmas is my absolute favourite so combining it with my favourite city is just a dream. People say spending Christmas in NYC is a once in a lifetime experience but for me, I know it’s not. I love it to not experience it over and over again.

I’ve talked about New York as a city, but it’s more than just a city. It does something inexplicable to you. When I’m not there, I miss it like I would a best friend. I dream of being back amongst the giant buildings and bright lights. I could go back time and time again and I don’t think my love would ever wane. Because that feeling bubbling inside at the mere thought of New York is pure happiness and that’s exactly what life should be about.

Have you left a piece of your heart in your favourite city? Tell me about it…

    1. One of the many amazing things about NYC, it's actually really hard to get lost. Because of how the streets are named, it's easy to know you're going the right away. I can see you love Orlando :-) It's still on my list to do Orlando properly! x

  6. Look at those Christmas lights!!! <3 New York definitely know how to do the holidays. We went for the first time when we were kids at Easter and the second time in our teenage years for Halloween and everything was just bigger and exciting. We have family in Long Island and really want to visit them again! It is a lovely place. Your pictures are awesome Nikki. Looks like an amazing time!

  11. As a New Yorker, it's interesting to see and hear what other people love about this city. I've lived here for a long time and there are still parts of the city that tourists introduce me to. Because you will never see or do everything in this city. It is truly one of the greatest cities in the world (and almost definitely in the US). Ironically, I'm growing tired of the NYC life and am looking for someone else to live. But, I agree, this city will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. There's no place like it!
