14 Fun Summer Activities in Beijing

Beijing is feeling hot, hot, hot right now! The weather is strange here; one day it will be the perfect temperate and the next day it is so hot you’re melting! We’re in that in-between stage at the moment which is the perfect time to get out there and make the most of the sunny Beijing days. There are lots of great things to do and here are some of my favourite

Take a trip to Beidaihe Beach – The beach is the perfect place to go during the summer month. Beijing doesn’t exactly have an abundance of beaches, but you can take a trip to Beidaihe to get your summer beach fix. I mean, it’s no Hawaiian paradise or anything, but it’s a nice beach for a stroll and the change of scene is always welcome.

Morning yoga on the Great Wall – The Great Wall needs to be on every list of things to do when in Beijing, but let’s be honest, nobody wants to go trekking the wall in the heat and humidity that is Beijing’s summer. The Brickyardoffers Sunday morning yoga on the wall every week so you can take in the views without sweating your ass off.

Sunday yoga in the park – If you don’t quite fancy the trip to the Wall, you can head to Chaoyang Park instead where you will find yoga in the park. After yoga you can join the other participants for brunch at Moka Bros (which is incredible by the way)

Spend the day on a man-made beach at Chaoyang Park – Each summer Chaoyang Park celebrates its Ocean Beach Fiesta with a man-made beach and swimming pool. If you’re looking for a relaxing time then it’s probably not the place for you, but if you’re looking for a true Chinese experience with the locals then it’s worth a visit; plus it’s a great way to cool down. It gets incredibly busy so arrive early and go through the week.

Sip cocktails at a rooftop bar – Beijing has plenty of great rooftop barsbut it’s difficult to always make the most of them during the summer weather. When the air is good, it’s the perfect place to relax after work or on a weekend with a cocktail or a nice cold Tsingdao.

Enjoy a picnic in the park – The 5 year old in us all loves a good picnic. There’s nothing better than sandwiches in plastic wrapping , veggies and dips and all of the cakes, all serves from a basket. Why not head to one of Beijing’s many parks, relax in the sunshine and eat a scrummy picnic?

Spend the day on a boat on Hou Hai Lake – Because who wouldn’t want to spend a summer’s day drinking beer on a boat?

Take in a game at Paddy O’Shea’s – I’m not football fan, but there’s something about the summer and the World Cup feeling that I love. You can catch a match, or any sporting event, on the screens at Paddy O’Shea’s with a big pint of your favourite tipple.

Camp on the Great Wall of China – It’s not possible to do this all year round so make the most of the summer and experience this once in a lifetime opportunity (or, you know, yearly opportunity if you live here) Imagine waking up on a summer’s morning to the sun rising over the Great Wall.

Get messy in the Colour Run– The colour runis probably the most fun run! I’m not a runner, never have been, never will be, but this is one run I would be up for!

Head to a pool party – Pool parties may not be your first thought when you think of Beijing, but in the summer there are plenty and they are most definitely needed.

Replace your Sunday roast with a bbq – Everybody loves a good bbq on a sunny day, so why not sample one of Beijng’s many bbqs on offer.

Travel the world in a day at Word Park Beijing – Looking for something a little different than head to World Parkwhere you can see all the sights of the world in a day. During the summer they have lots of events on, such as the synchronised fountain or water splashing with elephants.

Get wet at the Water Cube – Water parks are a must during the summer so why not head to one of the most unique  ones you can find. It may not have the most daring slides but it is in a bright blue lit up cube. There are plenty of other water parks in Beijing, but this is definitely the best!

Have I missed any other great summer activities in Beijing?
What’s on your list this summer?
